How to bulk import questions to the question pool using an Excel file

This article explains how to quickly and efficiently import questions into the question pool using a predefined YTM Excel format. You can insert questions with images (using a ZIP file) and without images.

You can add hundreds or thousands of questions to your Excel template and configure the settings of each question.

Accessing the page

To access the “Question pools” page, click on “Tests” on the left side menu, and select “Question pools” from the drop-down menu. 

Creating a question pool

To create a new question pool, follow these steps:

  1. Click the “New” button.
  2. Enter the question pool name.
  3. Enter the question pool description. (optional)
  4. Enter the External ID (optional).
  5. Click the “Save” button.

Loading questions using an Excel file

To import questions without images, you should navigate to the “Questions” tab and follow instructions below: 

  1. Click the “Load questions” button, and select the option “Without images”

      

  1. Click the “Excel template” link to download an Excel file you should fill in.
  2. Download detailed instructions on how to fill in the template.
  3. Check the box if you want to skip loading questions that already exist in the pool.
  4. Choose an Excel file with question data by clicking the “Select File” button.
  5. Click the “Upload” button to load questions into the system.

Loading questions with images using a .zip file

To load questions with images, you should upload a .zip file:

  1. Click the “Load questions” button, and select the option “With images.”
  2. Click the “Excel template” link to download an Excel file you should fill in.

  4. Check the box if you want to skip loading questions that already exist in the pool.
  5. Choose an Excel file with question data by clicking the “Select File” button
  6. Click the “Upload” button to load questions into the system.
